The Meilahti Art Museum, a part of the Helsinki City Art Museum, is located in Meilahti, in the western part of the district. The main exhibition hall of the museum was constructed in 19790s, in the immediate vicinity of the ancient Meilahti villa. The Meilahti complex consists of a wooden house, built in 1940-s and a wing, which was added later. The villa is surrounded with picturesque Seurasaari park area.

The background of the museum collection was several private collections, which primarily contain pictures of Finnish artists of the XX-th century. There are also the pictures of French artists of 1930-40-s.

Except the permanent exhibition of the museum there are the exhibitions of the contemporary art including the representation of photo- and video collections and modern design exhibitions are usually held in the museum. The Meilahti Art Museum cooperates closely and actively with foreign and Finnish art institutions and features several educational programs.
